Tinta Barroca
A grape with many names it has previously been called Tinta Grossa, Boca de Mina, Tinta Vigaria and Tinta Gorda but it is best known as Tinta Barroca. It is a popular variety in the Douro Valley due to its high yielding qualities. The grapes are high in sugar creating high alcohol wines. It should be planted in the warmer, sun facing sites or it can struggle to ripen fully and develop green flavours and astringent tannins.
It is a variety that is almost always blended whether it is used for Port or red wine production.
