Rabigato
Important for the production of white Port.
This is one of the more superior white grapes used in the production of white Port. The structure of the grape bunches is long and thin and relates to the name which apparently translates as ‘cats tail’
The wines have very floral aromas of orange blossom and white flowers. Better examples can have flinty, mineral flavours.
The majority of plantings are in the Douro Superior, the warmest of the three sub-regions. Here the wines have a very full body which suits the white Port style.
